Wonder if the remarks will be passed on to Putin …
The United Nations Security Council met for an emergency session on Monday following a fresh wave of massive military strikes.
Ukraine had requested the urgent gathering to address the latest Russian aerial assault on Ukraine, which claimed at least four civilian lives.
During the meeting, American diplomats did not hold back.
A strategic failure
US Representative Dan Negrea openly blasted the Kremlin’s military choices during his speech to the council, framing the invasion as a massive mistake.
“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been a strategic failure. Its oil refineries are on fire… Moscow cannot achieve its goals on the battlefield. Escalation will not change this and will only risk worsening the catastrophe. This war must end immediately. Enough is enough,” Negrea stressed, according to Ukrinform.
Time for talks
The American envoy then called on other nations to stop backing Moscow’s war machine. He specifically pointed fingers at countries supplying direct military aid, warning that their support only prolongs the misery.
“This also includes Iran, which supplied drones to Russia for use in Ukraine, as well as Cuba, which continues the war by allowing thousands of mercenaries to fight on Russia’s side,” the American diplomat noted.
Negrea also made it clear that Washington is prepared to step in whenever both sides decide to talk.
That seems unlikely to happen anytime soon, however, as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday, June 9, that “Right now, everything depends not on negotiations, but on the actions of our heroes on the front lines,” according to The Kyiv Post.
