Sony is adding major titles like Final Fantasy XVI and Sonic X Shadow Generations to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog this June, while controversially testing a new staggered, weekly release schedule for subscribers in the US, UK, and Japan.

Sony is bringing major AAA firepower to its subscription service this month. The PlayStation Blog has officially unveiled the June 2026 Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members, anchored by the cinematic action-RPG Final Fantasy XVI and the brand-new Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Testing a controversial new release schedule

While subscribers are gaining access to heavy hitters like Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Sony is drastically changing how players actually get their hands on them. As reported by Tech Times, Sony is piloting a new staggered release schedule exclusively in the US, UK, and Japan.

Instead of dropping the entire catalog on a single Tuesday, games will be drip-fed weekly throughout June. While Final Fantasy XVI launches globally on June 16, players in the pilot regions will have to wait until June 30 to download titles like Farming Simulator 25 and Black Desert. Analysts suggest the move is designed to boost recurring weekly engagement, though early subscriber feedback has been notably mixed.

Expanding the retro classics vault

For players on the highest-tier Premium plan, this month also brings a highly requested deep cut from the PlayStation 2 era. The beloved cult-classic rhythm game Gitaroo Man is making its modern console debut, joining the Classics Catalog on June 16 with native support for both the PS4 and PS5.
