One person sarcastically noted they were going to be great neighbours.
Building your first home is a massive financial milestone.
Every weekend visit to the construction site feels incredibly important. But jumping to conclusions when something looks out of place can easily backfire.
A messy weekend visit
Kelstyn and Brayden were thrilled to check on their new property in Mundijong, Perth. According to Australian news reports, the young couple recently poured the concrete foundation for their dream house.
When they arrived for a quick inspection, they found an unwelcome surprise. A massive mound of soil, sand and heavy debris sat right in the middle of their pristine slab. It was a complete mess.
The couple immediately suspected foul play. They assumed the people building next door had decided to use their foundation as a convenient rubbish dump.
Planning a counterattack
Emotions ran high as they surveyed the messy scene. Kelstyn shared the entire saga in a video uploaded to TikTok, explaining just how close they came to taking extreme action.
“So, guys, we almost started a war with our neighbours,” Kelstyn said in the clip.
She admitted they were so furious that they planned to gather their friends together. Their ultimate goal was to shovel the entire pile directly onto the adjacent block.
Thankfully, Brayden paused before launching the retaliation. He convinced Kelstyn to contact their building supervisor first to get some actual answers.
An innocent explanation
That simple email saved them from a very awkward neighbourhood dispute. The builder quickly replied with a perfectly normal explanation for the chaotic scene.
“I’m lucky we did (email first) because, plot twist, it was actually from our plumbers,” Kelstyn explained in her viral video.
The construction supervisor told the couple that tradespeople frequently store excess dirt on the slab while working on underground pipes. The crew promised to clear the site completely once the plumbing work wrapped up.
Internet delivers a verdict
While the couple laughed off the misunderstanding, the internet was far less forgiving. The TikTok video attracted heavy criticism. Viewers felt the pair were being completely unreasonable before even moving into the street.
One user simply declared, “You’re a troublemaker.” Another person sarcastically noted they were going to be great neighbours. Several construction workers also weighed in on the drama.
A plumber commented on the post to explain the common industry practice. Tradespeople do this all the time because they run out of space on smaller lots.
Kelstyn quickly fired back at the harsh online critics. “Fair enough, but if I’m spending hundreds of thousands on it, I’m probably gonna have a stickybeak,” she wrote.
