Joe Biden appears at family dinner following painful stage 4 cancer update
Joe Biden has appeared publicly in a new photograph days after his family disclosed further details about the former US president’s battle with advanced prostate cancer.
The 83-year-old was pictured during a family dinner on Sunday alongside his daughter Ashley Biden, offering the first glimpse of him since his son Hunter Biden discussed the extent of his illness.
Ashley shared the photograph on social media, showing her father smiling at the table and giving a thumbs-up to the camera.
“Tonight’s dinner received a thumbs up,” she wrote alongside the picture.
Son describes painful cancer battle
Biden’s appearance follows new comments from Hunter Biden about his father’s condition.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Newsnight, Hunter said the prostate cancer had spread beyond the original site of the disease and into his father’s bones.
According to Hunter, the illness has “metastasized into his bones and further.”
He also described the physical effects of the disease as “very painful” and “very debilitating,” adding that his father does not complain enough about what he is experiencing.
Former first lady Jill Biden had previously spoken about the cancer spreading to her husband’s bones, while Hunter’s interview provided additional details about how the disease is affecting his daily life.
Ashley Biden’s photograph subsequently provided supporters with a new look at the former president following those disclosures.
Biden can be seen seated at a wooden table during the family meal, looking toward the camera while raising his thumb.
No further information about his medical condition accompanied the photograph.
Biden has largely remained outside the public spotlight since leaving the White House, making new appearances particularly notable as attention has increasingly focused on his health.
Attended Sunday mass
The family dinner was not Biden’s only appearance outside his home over the weekend.
Reports also indicated that the former president attended Sunday mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine in Wilmington, Delaware, his longtime church.
Biden has maintained close ties to the parish for decades and regularly attended services there during his presidency.
His latest appearances come as his family continues to provide occasional updates about his condition following the diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer and its spread to other parts of his body.
