Old alliances are crumbling across the globe, forcing nations to look for new friends and secure borders.

The shift becomes obvious when foreign soldiers suddenly touch down in places they usually avoid. A major military event is about to highlight this dramatic change in a highly complex region, the Ukrainian state-owned media outlet United24Media reports.

A historic drill

Armenia is preparing to host the Eagle Partner 2026 training exercises. The event kicks off on June 17 and will run for just over a week.

Three different NATO member states are sending troops to participate. Never before has this specific quartet of nations trained together within the host country’s borders.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense stated that the gathering will help troops work together more smoothly. Leaders want to sharpen the skills of everyone involved as global tensions continue to rise.

Counting the troops

Altogether, exactly 343 military personnel will join the maneuvers. The host nation is providing the largest group, assigning 250 soldiers from its own dedicated peacekeeping brigade.

The United States is flying in 58 service members. These troops belong to the US Army Europe and Africa, along with the Kansas National Guard.

France is deploying 24 soldiers, and Greece will add 11 members to the active roster. During the event, the allied units will focus on “skills for preparation and execution of peacekeeping tasks,” the defense ministry noted.

Building new bonds

Sharing knowledge across borders is the main goal for the commanders. Military planners want the Armenian unit completely ready to deploy on future global missions.

This summer’s gathering expands an existing bond between Washington and Yerevan. The two governments previously launched the first version of these drills in late 2023.

According to United24Media, the upcoming event reflects a wider push to boost military readiness across the continent. Not long ago, a separate drill called Gallant Boar 2026 brought French, Polish, and Lithuanian units together.

That event took place near the highly sensitive Suwałki Gap. Commanders designed those intense maneuvers to test how quickly they could protect the vital stretch of land that links the Baltics to their European allies. Keeping that corridor safe remains a top priority for defense officials.
