That core principle is now front and center. Moscow just issued a stark new warning regarding its closest ally.
A clear warning
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin recently delivered a sharp message regarding ongoing tensions in Eastern Europe. He made the Kremlin’s position perfectly clear. Any attempt by Ukrainian forces to destabilize Belarus would cross a major red line.
Speaking to the Russian state news agency TASS, the senior diplomat warned that Moscow would treat any such actions as a direct attack on its own interests. He specifically pointed to the political and military alliance between Russia and Belarus, known as the Union State.
“Any attempts to destabilize the situation and any provocations against our ally [on behalf of the Kiev regime] will be regarded as an encroachment on the entire Union State,” Galuzin told the outlet.
The security pact
The legal foundation for this warning lies in a recent defense treaty. Since March 2025, the two allied nations have operated under a formal agreement on security guarantees within their shared Union State framework.
This defense arrangement explicitly outlines what happens if either nation faces a threat. Galuzin noted that the treaty includes “an obvious mechanism for joint response to any actions that may be qualified as a threat to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, or constitutional order of one of the parties.”
According to the diplomat, the agreement merges the defense priorities of both countries into a single shield. A hostile move against Minsk triggers an automatic response from Moscow.

“In accordance with the spirit and wording of this agreement, the security of Russia and Belarus is indivisible, and any outside encroachment on one of the allies is automatically considered a challenge to the entire Union State,” the Russian diplomat added.
