But one legendary dining hack is about to disappear forever.
A smarter solution
Disney World is saying goodbye to its classic trash bins. Park officials are slowly replacing the old flat-topped units with a modernized, solar-powered upgrade. The new models automatically crush garbage and run entirely on energy from the sun.
A recent promotional video posted to the Walt Disney World Cast and Community Facebook page showed off the fresh design. The clip described the incoming bins as a major operational leap forward.
“Same magic. Smarter can. These next generation Disney trash cans are designed to support the incredible work cast members do every day, helping keep the parks sparkling and ready for unforgettable memories,” the official caption read according to PEOPLE.
The narrator added that the upgraded bins are “designed to do more so cast members can focus on what matters most.” The high-tech cans can hold “significantly more” waste than the older versions.
Rolling out the cans
Resort executives actually began testing this technology a year ago. Early pilot programs placed the compacting bins in select zones across the Florida property, according to a statement provided to The Washington Post.
Now, the transition is speeding up. Disney plans to bring the solar bins to many more locations over the coming months.
While the company praises the environmental benefits, regular guests see a massive problem. The new lids feature a slanted top. That steep angle completely destroys the bin’s secondary purpose as a makeshift dining table.
Hungry for tables

“Not flat on top, so no more eating on trash cans. Hope they install more tables especially in Epcot during festivals,” one frustrated Facebook user wrote.
Another fan pitched a creative compromise. “They should seal the doors of the old trash cans and leave them around Epcot to be used strictly as tables!!!” they suggested in the comments.
The sentiment echoed loudly across the fan base. “Yeah but where am I supposed to eat? Y’all are going to have to install more tables now!” a third commenter declared. PEOPLE magazine reported reaching out to Disney for comment.
