The rumor mill is spinning. A familiar conspiracy theory about the American first lady is buzzing across the internet once again. Eager online detectives believe they have finally unmasked the person who occasionally stands in for Melania Trump.
According to the Irish Star, the latest wave of rumors kicked off on August 11. President Donald Trump stepped off Air Force One. He was joined by a woman hiding behind large, dark sunglasses.
The 56-year-old first lady has stayed entirely out of the spotlight since July 19. Her last public appearance took place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final in New Jersey.
The aide in disguise
Social media users quickly zoomed in on the blurry tarmac footage. They pointed their fingers directly at Margo Martin. She is a 31-year-old staffer who travels closely with the president.
Taking to the platform X, one user posted a photo of the mystery woman. They tagged the young aide and asked, “Hey @margomartin .. Is this you?”
Other people immediately jumped into the comment section to agree. One observer wrote, “Who does she thing she’s fooling? Good Gawd,” while another simply declared, “Margo is busted!”

These strange stand-in rumors actually date back to 2017. Back then, critics noticed sudden changes in the first lady’s facial expressions and her unexpected switch to flat shoes.
The physical similarities between the two women keep the gossip alive today. They share a similar hair color, and the president once called his young staffer “the most beautiful photographer in the world.”
The theory caught on fast. Another user on X fueled the fire by stating, “Margo often works as a body double for Melania. Interesting.”
Her recent absences only make the rumors louder. She skipped Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral and a major family photo shoot at the Trump golf club.
Missing space
The first lady has only made about 38 public appearances during the first seven months of this new term. She also lacks a formal workspace in Washington right now.
Her staff offices disappeared when the East Wing was demolished. That space is currently an active construction zone for a massive new ballroom project.
