An older campaign recording has returned to public attention amid questions about access to a presidential social media account. The footage shows one example of how spoken remarks can become online posts.
The White House’s July 2026 personnel report identifies Natalie Harp as special assistant to the president and executive assistant to the president, placing her among the staff working closely with the administration.
Reporting indicates her work also includes helping with Donald Trump’s social media posts. CNN reported that Harp types messages dictated by Trump and identified White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino as another staff member involved with the Truth Social account. The network also reported that Trump personally publishes many posts himself, particularly outside normal working hours.
HuffPost said spokesperson Davis Ingle provided no further clarification about how posts are approved, whether they undergo any review before publication, or how many people are authorized to access the account.
Old footage returns
According to HuffPost, Harp drew renewed attention after Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff brought her up during a campaign rally while attacking Trump. Soon afterward, older footage of Harp working alongside Trump during the 2024 campaign began making the rounds again online.
The video comes from Art of the Surge, a documentary series following Trump’s reelection campaign and showing moments from inside his political operation. In the resurfaced scene, Trump watches Kamala Harris speak at the Democratic National Convention while Harp sits close by with a laptop, listening as he reacts to the speech.
Trump delivers comments while Harp types, creating a visible record of how at least some of his social media messages were prepared. Remarks heard during the scene later appeared as separate Truth Social posts on August 22, 2024, shortly after the exchange shown in the footage.
Experts assess the exchange
Two behavioral specialists interviewed by HuffPost said the interaction suggested that Harp was accustomed to working closely with Trump in that setting.
Behavioral scientist Abbie Maroño said Harp appeared comfortable taking instructions without Trump needing to slow down, repeat himself or carefully explain what he wanted. She also noted that Trump seemed at ease relying on Harp to follow what he was saying while his attention remained on the television.
Behavior analyst Traci Brown reached a similar impression after reviewing the scene. She pointed to Harp’s attentiveness and the way she stayed focused on Trump as he spoke, saying: “There’s a comfort there between them.”
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle rejected any suggestion that Harp’s role should be viewed negatively and praised her work for the president. He told HuffPost: “Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team.”
