Lara Trump channels her inner Irishwoman before immediately thinking better of it.
Lara Trump returned from Ireland with family memories, photos from her son’s birthday and, apparently, a new accent that lasted approximately a few seconds.
President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law was discussing the family’s recent visit to Ireland during an episode of her podcast The Right View with Lara Trump when her pronunciation suddenly acquired a distinctly Irish flavor.
Trump noticed it herself almost immediately.
Rather than committing to her newfound accent, the 43-year-old quickly abandoned the impression and acknowledged that her attempt had probably not been among the strongest ever heard on the Emerald Isle.
Ireland briefly followed her home
Trump had been answering questions from listeners when the conversation turned to her son, Luke, and his interest in American football.
Luke celebrated his ninth birthday during the family’s visit to Ireland earlier this month. Photos shared from the trip showed Donald Trump alongside Lara, Eric Trump and their children during the birthday celebrations at the Trump family’s resort in Doonbeg.
While recounting the story, Lara Trump explained how people in Ireland had apparently connected the family’s move to Florida with Luke supporting the Miami Dolphins.
Then came the accent.
“Over in Ireland,” Trump began before adopting an exaggerated Irish pronunciation and adding: “Top of the morning to ya.”
She quickly noticed what she was doing.
“Over in Ireland… I get an Irish accent,” Trump said.
Seconds later, she effectively issued her own review of the performance.
“No, that was, like, that was very Gretchen Whitmer of me,” she added.
Trump’s podcast episode, published on September 18, specifically included stories about the family’s Ireland visit and Luke’s birthday celebrations at the Irish Open.
Grandpa joined the birthday celebrations
The Trump family’s Ireland visit had provided plenty of material for Lara’s social media accounts even before the accent made its appearance.
Luke turned nine while the family was staying at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg. Lara Trump marked the occasion by sharing photographs of her son with Donald Trump and other members of the family.
“No better way to celebrate being 9 than in Ireland with Grandpa! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUKE,” she wrote alongside the pictures.
Donald Trump was visiting Ireland for a trip that included meetings with Irish political leaders as well as his attendance at the Irish Open at his Doonbeg property. Presidential pool reports confirmed that he spent Saturday evening at the hotel and was photographed celebrating his grandson’s birthday.
Lara and Eric Trump travelled with their two children, Luke and Carolina, while Donald Trump Jr. was also among the family members who made the trip.
Internet users had other things on their minds
The brief accent might have supplied the lightest moment of Trump’s latest episode, but some responses to her social media post quickly wandered back into American politics.
Several users used the comment section to criticize her father-in-law’s administration rather than discuss her Irish impression.
One commenter focused specifically on fuel prices and their potential effect on Republican voters ahead of the midterm elections.
“49 days until the Midterms, Lara. What is the President doing about hi fuel prices?” the user wrote, before arguing that lowering fuel prices “must be TOP PRIORITY.”
Other replies quoted in reports about the video resorted to personal insults about Lara Trump’s appearance, while another commenter launched a broader attack on Republican politicians.
Such comments represented individual social media reactions rather than any broader measurement of public opinion.
Lara Trump, who was born in North Carolina, married Eric Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida in November 2014.
The couple have two children, Eric “Luke” Trump and Carolina Trump.
Her media profile has grown considerably alongside her political involvement. Trump previously served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee during the 2024 election cycle and currently hosts My View with Lara Trump on Fox News alongside her own The Right View program.
Ireland has now supplied the latter show with a family story, a birthday anecdote and a very short-lived experiment with a new accent.
Judging by Trump’s immediate retreat, the Irish impression may be staying on the other side of the Atlantic.
