The police believe it is an apparent suicide pact.

A fourteen-year-old girl and a sixteen-year-old boy had left their home in Hardoi, India, without alerting their families.

Concerned relatives immediately began combing the area, hoping to locate the teenagers before nightfall.

Panic set in when a chilling message popped up on an Instagram account tied to the missing pair, revealing their fate.

A tragedy broadcast on social media

According to the Indian digital news platform ETV Bharat, the Instagram update read, “I am dead, come and see.”

After reading the caption, family members soon alerted fellow residents to search for them in the surrounding countryside. Their frantic search ended roughly five hundred metres outside Sarangpur village in the Hardoi district.

In a field, shocked residents discovered the teenagers hanging from a tree. Officers arrived soon after at the field and helped local residents lower the bodies from the tree.

A suspected suicide pact

Additional Superintendent of Police Subodh Gautam then inspected the site while officers spoke with grief-stricken relatives to piece together their final hours.

According to The Times of India, the police’s preliminary investigation suggests that the motivation behind the hanging is a suspected suicide pact.

“Prima facie, the matter appears to be related to a love affair,” Gautam said, explaining the police’s initial assessment to reporters. Investigators are now reviewing family statements alongside upcoming autopsy results to establish the exact motive behind this tragedy, while all possible angles are explored.
