During a rambling speech in Ohio, Trump told rallygoers they “have to vote” for Minnesota Senate hopeful Michele Tafoya – who is already distancing herself from him.
Last night’s midterm campaign rally speech from Trump took its usual detours, but there were also some jaw-dropping moments concerning a different state and its people.
He had a lot of things to say about people’s looks and appearances.
And then he seemed to forget where he was delivering his speech when he started to endorse a candidate from a completely different state.
Telling the Ohio crowd to vote for a candidate in Minnesota
After Trump told the crowd that he was very pleased with Republican Senator from Ohio Jon Husted after he had “examined” his physique, he then went off on a weird racist tangent about Somalis in Minnesota.
“Look at what’s happening in the once-great state of Minnesota. What a mess. Somalia […] all they do is kill each other in the streets. They cheat on everything,” Trump stated without providing any evidence.
And then Trump endorsed a Republican running for Senate in Minnesota.
“You have to vote for Michele Tafoya, who’s a very respected person, while we’re at it. I should say it, she’s very respected,” Trump said to the crowd in Ohio.
Tafoya distancing herself from Trump
Michele Tafoya, who is a former NFL sideline reporter and journalist from NBC Sports, faces Democratic nominee Peggy Flanagan in the general election.
She is currently down in the polls, which is perhaps why she just unveiled a new ad where she seems to distance herself from the president.
“I’m a pro-choice Republican; I’m not afraid to stand up to my party. When Trump is right, I’ll work with him. When he’s wrong, I’ll stand up for Minnesota,” Tafoya says in the new ad video.
