Footage shows a large fire at the site.
Overnight on October 15, Ukrainian forces launched a Neptune coastal missile at the Borisoglebsk military airfield in Russia’s Voronezh region, according to the Ukrainian Navy.
Navy officials said the direct hit sparked raging fires across the complex, with the strike catching high-value aircraft parked out in the open, destroying six Su-34M bombers.
“Technical equipment supporting aviation operations was also destroyed, while secondary detonations and a fire were recorded on the airfield grounds. Information is being clarified,” the Navy stated.
The information has not been independently verified, but the OSINT and monitoring group Exilenova+ has released footage allegedly showing a large fire at the airfield.
The glide bomb fleet
According to United24 Media, the Su-34M was originally built to replace the aging Su-24M and serves as Moscow’s primary delivery system for winged glide bombs.
By lobbing heavy munitions fitted with pop-out guidance kits from high altitude, Russian pilots can pummel positions while staying out of reach of air defense batteries.
If confirmed, losing six warplanes creates an immediate problem for Russian air operations along the front line. Ukrainian naval officials stressed that the loss directly limits tactical bombing sorties in contested sectors, leaving significantly fewer jets available to pound Ukrainian troops and border towns.
The base strike follows another recent blow to Russian aviation. Just days earlier, Ukrainian forces downed an advanced Russian Mi-28NM attack helicopter using an explosive drone in midair.
