Elon Musk calls for Zelensky to step down amid critical satellite communication disruptions on the battlefield.

When a nation relies on commercial tech for its defence, dependencies on private infrastructure can directly impact military fronts.

Ukrainian forces are experiencing technical disruptions across satellite networks powering their operations, according to POLITIS.

Military officials confirmed that recent outages are creating problems for drone operations and air defence systems in critical zones.

According to Reuters, these restrictions have directly impacted Ukrainian drone missions targeting Russian-occupied territories in the south and east.

Officials reported that drones traveling at speeds above 160 km/h (100 mph) experienced intermittent connection losses lasting 10 to 20 seconds. These interruptions reportedly forced forces to cancel several missions.

These signal drops create immediate risks for frontline troops, where reliable network links are essential for coordinating defence measures during ongoing combat.

Musk calls for political change

Amid these disruptions, SpaceX chief Elon Musk publicly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to step down.

Writing on X, Musk claimed that “the slaughter continues” unless the leader leaves, adding that “it is time for Zelensky to go,” POLITIS reports.

The public demand marks a direct political intervention by the private tech billionaire in Ukraine’s national governance.

Responsibility and system distinctions

Musk rejected claims that SpaceX is directly restricting the service.

Instead, he maintained that any technical slowdowns or network restrictions stem from actions taken by the US government.

To explain the technical setup, Musk highlighted the operational differences between the satellite platforms.

He noted that the Starshield platform is tailored specifically for military and government use, whereas standard Starlink remains intended for civilian communications, according to POLITIS.

The situation underscores the significant role private infrastructure providers play in modern international conflicts.
