Devastating new poll shows Trump support craters among Asian American voters

Only one in four approve of his presidency as surging gas prices and economic frustration removes the post-2024 gains.

New polls about the upcoming midterm elections are conducted in America every day, and they all show the same thing: President Donald Trump is losing support fast.

Even the Trump-friendly Fox News has a new poll out that shows that Trump’s approval rating has hit an all-time low of 36%.

A new poll surveying specific Asian minority communities shows that while Trump may have been popular with them in 2024, that is not the case anymore — far from it.

Pain at the pump

President Donald Trump is bleeding support among Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander voters, reveals a joint survey from AP-NORC and AAPI Data. Barely one in four adults across the demographic gives his overall presidency a passing grade.

The drop is especially steep on issues that concern everyday Americans. Just two out of 10 approve of his economic leadership, even though nine out of 10 describe the economy as crucial to their vote. Rising costs at the gas station have deepened that frustration.

“Where I’m at, it’s [gone] up almost $1.50 (a gallon),” Rebecca Larocco, a 45-year-old Korean American voter in Iowa who voted for Trump in 2016, told The Independent.

“I didn’t expect to go into war at all, that has been definitely unexpected and I’m not sure […] I’m just hoping they’ll do what they’re saying and get our economy back on track, get immigration and crime lowered.”

Frustration for both political parties

Trump’s numbers have been dipping all year. As AAPI Data head Karthick Ramakrishnan noted, any goodwill Trump built up right after the 2024 race has evaporated. Trump’s favorability within the minority community tumbled 10 percentage points over nine months, sinking to barely 30 percent.

That collapse opens a massive doorway for the opposition. Democrats currently hold a 20-point dominance in the polls on both financial management and border policy, two issues Republicans and Trump have normally polled well on. That goodwill has evaporated, as two-thirds of surveyed adults view the Republican Party negatively.

Yet Democrats cannot take this survey as a guaranteed victory with these communities. Forty-eight percent of the people asked in the survey still hold an unfavorable view of the party, pointing to widespread disillusionment with the overall political establishment.

As Chicago Democrat Louise Rider stated, “I don’t think the Democrats are doing great, I think they need a lot of change as a party.”
