A new era for 007: We now have three new James Bond agents
Amazon MGM

After Amazon MGM acquired the rights to the British superspy, releases in various formats are being ramped up.

For over 60 years, James Bond has been one of film history’s most recognizable characters. Six different actors have so far had the honor of playing the British secret agent in the official film series, each leaving their mark on the role.

Following Daniel Craig’s farewell in 2021, speculation about his successor has been rife in Hollywood. But even though the film studio has yet to reveal the name of the next Bond, significant changes have already occurred in the agent’s universe.

Amazon MGM Studios is working to reinvent the iconic franchise, and it appears this will involve several different interpretations of the main character.

According to Inside the Magic, at least three new actors will portray James Bond across films, video games, and audio dramas.

Two of them have already been announced, while the third remains shrouded in secrecy.

Hollywood’s Next Big Bond Venture

Amazon MGM Studios has assembled a remarkable team for the upcoming James Bond film.

Director Denis Villeneuve, known for the Dune films, among others, will lead the British agent into a new chapter.

The screenplay is being written by Steven Knight, best known for creating the popular TV series Peaky Blinders.

Additionally, Amy Pascal, who has worked on several Spider-Man productions, and David Heyman, the producer behind the Harry Potter films, are attached to the project.

In other words, ambitions are high.

However, the public still awaits the answer to the question that has occupied Bond enthusiasts for years.

Who will take over the role after Daniel Craig?

Craig played James Bond in five films, starting with Casino Royale in 2006 and concluding with No Time to Die in 2021.

His successor has not yet been announced, nor has Amazon MGM released a premiere date for the upcoming film.

But other parts of the Bond universe have already begun to introduce their own versions of the agent.

First New Bond Already Revealed

Irish actor Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter: Original Sin, among other roles, has been cast as James Bond in the video game 007 First Light.

The game is developed by Danish IO Interactive, also behind the popular Hitman series.

Here, players will have the opportunity to experience a younger version of the British agent, long before he becomes the seasoned 007 known to cinema audiences.

Gibson provides both the voice and performance for the character.

He has thus already secured a place in Bond history, even though he is not slated to take over the role in Amazon MGM’s upcoming feature film.

James Bond Becomes a Teenager

However, Patrick Gibson is not the only actor who will give the agent a new identity.

Production company Big Finish Productions has also announced a new interpretation of James Bond.

Here, the role has gone to Isaac Rouse, who has appeared in the sixth season of The Crown, among other productions.

He will voice a teenage version of Bond in the audio drama Young Bond: SilverFin.

The production is based on Charlie Higson’s 2005 novel SilverFin, which explores the famous agent’s youth.

The story allows audiences to meet Bond at a time when his career as a secret agent is still far in the future.

Thus, Gibson and Rouse will portray two different younger versions of the character, while Amazon MGM continues to search for the actor who will carry the next major theatrical film.

Even More Actors May Join

Three new Bond actors may not be the final number, however.

According to Inside the Magic, rumors are also circulating that Universal United Kingdom Resort might feature a James Bond show.

The concept is reportedly similar to the stunt show The Bourne Stuntacular at Universal Studios Florida.

If these plans materialize, it would likely require yet another actor to portray the agent in front of a live audience.

However, this information is unconfirmed, and no official announcement of such a show has been made.

At the same time, there is speculation that Amazon MGM’s upcoming film might show Bond at several different points in his life.

Should the filmmakers choose to tell a larger origin story, it could open the door for multiple actors in the same film.

This possibility has also not been confirmed.
