Just days after having dinner with him at the White House, Trump expressed his anger towards the comedian in his perhaps longest Truth Social post ever.
It seems as though somebody had taped an episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO for President Donald Trump.
While the television show runs on Friday nights, it was not until late Sunday night that Trump apparently watched the episode featuring his former press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Suffice it to say that Trump did not like the interview as he went to Truth Social to write one of the longest essays ever on the platform.
Dinner turns into diss
Donald Trump published an explosive rant containing more than 1,300 words. Writing on Truth Social, the US president attacked talk show host Bill Maher, branding him a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and mocking his audience. The outburst came only days after Maher visited Washington for a private dinner at the executive mansion on October 15.
The pair share a notoriously rocky past. Years ago, Trump sued the comic for joking that the president’s father was an orangutan, though both men recently tried to make peace. Trump claimed Maher invited himself to their first meal in March 2025, returned this month, and repeatedly begged for an on-air interview.
Trump refused to appear on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Instead, he called it a “Low Rated Show” and contrasted it with his own past work on “The Apprentice,” which he praised as a “Top Hit Show.”
Trading insults
It seems as though Trump watched the whole episode, not just the Leavitt interview. In Maher’s monologue, he attacked the president’s political standing. “Trump has the lowest approval rating of any midterm candidate ever,” Maher claimed. He added: “Only 1 percent of the Republicans are mentioning him in their ads. It’s gotten really bad.”
Trump fired back on Truth Social. Citing a CNN poll, he insisted his support among Republicans reached 98 to 99 percent. Then he went further, writing that “Bill Maher lied, but he lies about everything.”
Closing his post, Trump praised Leavitt as “great” while labeling Maher a “dumb sleazebag.” He ended with a final dismissal. “There were so many other falsehoods Bill spewed, but I won’t waste time in FACT CHECKING him. He isn’t worth it,” Trump wrote.
