The former president was in rare form in Michigan after he hit the Democratic campaign trail with just eight days left until the midterm elections.
Over the weekend, Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate for Senate in Michigan, held a rally, making a final push to win his midterm election over Trump-backed Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
He had invited a special guest: the former president Barack Obama, who accepted El-Sayed’s invitation and gave his endorsement.
But he also had some choice words for the current president and how he had redesigned the White House.
Too focused on ‘home renovations’
Barack Obama seemed to take the gloves off during his speech when it came to the topic of the president and the renovations he had done to the White House.
Here, Obama compared Trump to a notorious dictator and the White House to a fast-food restaurant.
“I don’t know if you noticed, but he seems very focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV! He’s building a ballroom that’s bigger than the White House. And what’s up with the gold? He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. It’s gold everywhere,” Obama said to raucous roars and cheers.

Obama also goes after Hegseth
Donald Trump was not the only MAGA personality whom Obama went after on Saturday night in Michigan.
He also lampooned Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the job he had done. According to Obama, he was more occupied with his appearance than his actual job.
“Meanwhile, we got a defense secretary… Wait, wait, don’t boo! He’s very focused on important matters, like the jawlines and testosterone levels of our troops — and livestreaming executions! […] How much time do you think this defense secretary spends looking in the mirror in the morning? These are not serious people,” Obama said while describing how Hegseth styles his hair.

Trump responds to Obama during his own rally
If there was any question whether Trump had been shown these clips, it was quickly answered when Trump took the stage in Valdosta, Georgia.
“I saw Barack Hussein Obama was in Michigan. And the place was empty. They were saying: ‘Oh, this is a large crowd. The people are trickling through.’ They don’t talk about my crowds, they never talk about them.”

Later that night, Trump also took to Truth Social to respond to Obama and claimed that he backs only candidates who will lose.
“He then campaigned full out for Kamala, and likewise, she lost. Now he’s campaigning for a Muslim Brotherhood Jihadist, who hates Jews and Blacks and AMERICANS and TRUMP,” Trump wrote, among other things in the lengthy post.
