Global tensions rarely stay confined to diplomatic backrooms for long.

Nowadays, heated warnings play out in front of millions of viewers during daytime television broadcasts.

And this week, a fresh round of broadcast threats aimed directly at Western allies took a noticeably darker turn.

Waiting for one line

According to the Daily Express, Russian politician Adalby Shkhagoshev used an appearance on the television programme 60 Minutes to claim that President Vladimir Putin is holding back on attacking Britain until a specific threshold is crossed.

During the broadcast, presenter Olga Skabeeva asked why Moscow had not yet launched strikes against NATO member states.

The State Duma deputy replied: “I see it and I understand it; we’re also being asked these questions. For example, why aren’t we striking England right now? We’re watching it very seriously; we have our plans.”

He did not stop there. Shkhagoshev added: “As soon as certain lines I’ve mentioned are crossed by England, we will certainly use the kinds of weapons that will strike England very painfully.”

Earlier in the show, as reported by the Daily Express, he defined those triggers as a “serious threat to our national security and to our borders”.

Five locations on screen

Behind the guests, studio graphics repeatedly flashed a map of the United Kingdom across the screen.

Although the text on the graphic was in Russian and did not explicitly state its purpose, the Daily Express noted that it highlighted five broad regions around London, Norfolk, Bristol, Bath, and Edinburgh.

Military analyst Mikhail Khodaryonok joined the panel and claimed Moscow already possesses the capability to hit British defence manufacturing sites.

He told viewers: “As to the hypothetical strikes against the objects of the United Kingdom’s military-industrial complex, Britain’s leadership has to realise that sooner or later, they will have to answer for their actions.”

Khodaryonok followed up with a timeline warning. He said: “If not today, then tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, but in the historically observable future after all. We have all technical means for a strike against the military-industrial complex of Great Britain.”

On Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova echoed the hostility over Britain’s decision to give Kyiv Storm Shadow missiles and production technology, the Daily Express reported. She warned: “Any British military facilities and equipment in Ukraine and beyond could be targeted in response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons on Russian territory.”
