Critics on social media wasted no time roasting the clip.
Public speaking after a long week on the road is a recipe for an awkward slip of the tongue.
Even with a teleprompter glowing right in front of you, one misread line can turn a fiery warning into instant comedy.
On Monday, a prominent political surrogate learned that lesson the hard way.
A geografic slip
Donald Trump Jr. stumbled through a bizarre geography blunder in Swanton, Ohio, on the eve of the midterm elections, according to the Irish Star. Put simply, he warned a crowd of Ohio voters that Democrats were plotting to turn their home into a US state.
Waving his arms and imitating his father’s delivery, the president’s eldest son told the audience that Democrats “want to pack the Supreme Court” and “want to make Ohio a state.”
He froze for a brief moment to check the screen again. “Want to make D.C. a state,” he quickly added to fix the mistake.
Mocked online
Critics on social media wasted no time roasting the clip, the Irish Star reported. “I can’t….I can’t even guess what he meant to say, that’s how stupid this is,” one person posted on X.
Another user piled on with a string of jokes. “They want to make Cleveland a city! They want to make guacamole a dip! They want to make cocaine illegal!” the commenter wrote.
The Ohio stop came right after a campaign event in upstate New York as the administration rushed across the map to protect Republican control of Congress. In Swanton, Trump Jr. shared the stage with Vice President JD Vance to boost Senate incumbent Jon Husted and governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
Back in Washington
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump wrapped up his own midterm campaigning at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington on Monday, according to the Irish Star.
Standing beside giant posters of construction designs, he spent much of his closing speech complaining about the delayed repairs that were supposed to be done by July 4.
Still, the president claimed past leaders had put off the overhaul and insisted the repaired landmark should “unite all Americans.”
“It’s in better health, better shape,” Trump told the crowd. “It was a work of art that never worked.” He also boasted about lower local crime rates, Interior Department makeovers, investments he said he brought to the capital, and the removal of homeless camps near federal land.
