Melania Trump was nowhere to be seen.

Election nights at the White House are usually all-hands-on-deck moments for a political family.

When the votes start rolling in, aides and relatives typically gather around the screens to share the tension together.

On Tuesday evening, however, one very noticeable chair stayed empty.

Skipping the party

As Donald Trump and his team watched Republicans lose control of Congress from the East Room on Tuesday night, Melania Trump was nowhere to be seen.

According to the Irish Star and a White House source speaking to the Daily Mail, the first lady skipped the watch party entirely while voters handed her husband’s allies steep defeats across the map.

For months, the president had urged Americans to treat the midterms as if his own name were on the ticket.

That strategy backfired badly, the Irish Star noted, as Democrats picked up victories in battlegrounds like Georgia, New Hampshire, and North Carolina while also flipping reliable Republican states including Texas, Kansas, Iowa, and South Carolina.

A different focus

Rather than weighing in on the historic losses, the first lady kept her public silence on the election results. According to the Irish Star, she used social media on Tuesday to highlight her own diplomatic plans with Russian and Ukrainian officials instead.

While Americans cast their ballots, the White House announced that Melania will speak at 11am on Thursday, November 5, in the building’s Grand Foyer.

Having largely avoided the public eye during her husband’s second term, she plans to host envoys from both Moscow and Kyiv at the event, the Irish Star reported.

Truce and blame

Her Thursday speech will center on a local humanitarian truce she helped arrange in and around Oleshky, a Russian-held city in Ukraine’s Kherson region, according to the Irish Star.

The six-day pause let stranded civilians escape and marked the biggest ceasefire between the two countries since 2022, though Russian strikes ramped back up after the deal expired on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the president took a very different approach to Tuesday’s political fallout after spending weeks crisscrossing the country for Republican candidates without his wife on the campaign trail.

According to the Irish Star, Melania walked into the polling station with him to vote, then left him to explain the wipeout alone on his Truth Social account.

“I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, as reported by the Irish Star.
