The darkest parts of the internet do not always stay there. For families, monitoring online chats is a constant battle. Now, investigators are trying to pull a pair of shadows into the harsh light of a courtroom.
Two teenagers in Denmark face severe criminal charges. They allegedly led a sadistic online group and forced a young girl to harm herself on video.
According to the broadcaster DR, the abuse lasted for ten months. It began in late 2024. The terrifying ordeal finally ended the following October.
At the time, the suspects were 16 and 17 years old. The victim was under 12. Investigators have charged the teens with digital rape, illegal coercion, and distributing explicit content.
Shadowy network leaders
The suspects reportedly managed a global network known as 1414. They hid their real identities behind the screen names Chax and Saw.
Europol has confirmed to DR that two youths from Denmark founded the group. The international agency knows about the digital rape case. Officials noted that the network regularly shared videos of vandalism and animal abuse.
More than a year has passed since the initial arrests. Even so, Copenhagen Westside Police are still investigating.
The suspects are not currently held in custody. Authorities have declined to explain why the legal process is taking so long.
Denying the accusations
Both teenagers pleaded not guilty during a preliminary hearing last year.
Lawyer Kristina Marstrand represents the younger suspect. This boy is allegedly linked to the name Saw.
In a written response to the broadcaster, she pushed back against the media claims. “My client disputes that there is truth in those assumptions,” she wrote.
She also noted the lack of a formal indictment. “The police have investigated the case but until now have not found reason to bring charges against my client,” Marstrand added.
Still logging on
The older suspect is now 18 years old. His lawyer says he continues to deny any guilt.
Meanwhile, the network itself has not vanished. Reporters at DR have monitored hundreds of Telegram chat groups since May 2026. They recently spotted the user Chax remaining active online.
Journalists reached out directly to the person behind the Chax profile. The user wrote back to say they “do not wish to answer questions from journalists.”
There are currently no signs that the other leader is still logging in. The police investigation continues in the background.
