Trader Joe’s has issued a recall on a specific cheese product due to a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can cause serious illness in vulnerable individuals.
What’s Being Recalled?
The affected product is Face Rock Creamery’s Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Cheese Curds.
The cheese was sold in 6-ounce plastic containers and has a use-by date of August 29, 2025 printed on the packaging.
These cheese curds were distributed in Trader Joe’s locations in Northern California, including areas like Monterey and Fresno, and in Northern Nevada, such as Carson City, Reno, and Sparks.

You can either throw it away or return it to any Trader Joe’s location for a full refund.
While there have been no reported illnesses so far, Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in pregnant individuals, older adults (65+), people with weakened immune systems, and young children.
Symptoms of listeriosis may include:
- Fever
- Muscle aches
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
