The bleaching agents in detergents made for white laundry only become fully active at 60°C or higher.

“Many people wash white clothes at 40 degrees to protect the fabric, but then the bleach doesn’t work effectively,” explains Helle.

Helle also warns against using chlorine-based products, which can damage the fabric and leave yellow stains.

Instead, choose a chlorine-free bleach with active oxygen, it whitens effectively without harming the material.

• Avoid tumble-drying synthetic underwear like panties and bras. Heat can cause greying and affect elasticity.
• Don’t wash delicate synthetic white fabrics with coarse textiles like towels. Lint and fibers easily cling to them.
• Use the correct detergent dosage, especially if you’re also using a water softener. In that case, follow the instructions for soft water.
• Wash white clothes regularly and avoid letting them sit unwashed for too long. Stains set more deeply over time.

With the right temperature, gentle products, and good habits, your white clothes can look as good as new, wash after wash.
