Ukrainian Air Force Major Accused of Spying for Russia
In a high-stakes counterintelligence operation, Ukraine’s security services have arrested a major in the Ukrainian Air Force suspected of acting as a mole for the Russian FSB.
The officer was detained during a special operation in the Lviv region.
Recruited Through His Ex-Wife
Investigators say the accused was recruited via his ex-wife, a former military officer now collaborating with Russian forces in the occupied city of Melitopol.
The woman has also been indicted for treason in absentia.
Critical Military Intel at Risk
The FSB allegedly tasked the major with collecting sensitive military information, including the locations of airfields, logistics hubs, and aircraft maintenance centres used by Ukrainian fighter jets.
Preventing a Potential Disaster
According to Ukrainian officials, had the information been delivered, Russian forces intended to launch missile and drone strikes on the identified locations.
The mole was intercepted before he could compromise any targets.
Supervised by Elite Russian Operative
The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) says the spy’s activities were coordinated by Aleksandr Belodedov, a high-ranking officer in Russia’s elite Alpha special operations unit, part of the FSB.

The SBU claims to have thoroughly documented the suspect’s communications with Russian intelligence.
These efforts were part of broader countermeasures to secure critical military sites.
Facing Life in Prison
The detained officer has been charged with high treason committed during wartime, a grave offence under Ukrainian law. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment and the seizure of all assets.
