Walmart is recalling approximately 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce stainless steel water bottles after reports surfaced of serious injuries, including permanent vision loss, caused by the product’s lid ejecting forcefully upon opening.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the alert after multiple complaints, including two consumers who were struck in the eye.
Here’s how to tell if your bottle is affected
The recalled bottles were sold exclusively by Walmart, both in-store and online, from 2017 onward for about $15 each.
While the model number 83-662 is listed only on the original packaging — not on the bottle itself — there are other ways to identify it:

Why the bottles are dangerous
The risk comes from pressure build-up inside the bottle — especially when used to store perishable or carbonated drinks like juice, milk, or soda over a long period.
When opened, the lid can shoot off suddenly and with force, potentially hitting the user in the face.
What to do if you own one
Stop using the water bottle immediately.
Consumers can return it to any Walmart store for a full refund or contact Walmart directly for more instructions.
