Paralysis Patients Wanted for Neuralink Brain Implant Research in the UK

We often hear about new technology changing how we live. But what if it could also change how people with paralysis communicate and control devices?

That’s the goal of Neuralink, Elon Musk’s company. They are about to start clinical trials in the UK to test brain implants that could help people with paralysis.

Ready to Do Trials after Tests in the US

Neuralink is working with University College London Hospitals and Newcastle Hospitals, writes WP. They are looking for people with paralysis to join the trials.

The company says these tests follow successful trials already done in the United States.

They believe this is a big step toward making brain-computer technology available to people with neurological problems.

So how does Neuralink’s brain implant work? The device is put inside the brain. It connects the brain to a computer.

Right now, five people with severe paralysis are already using it. They control devices just by thinking about moving. The company has a website where people can sign up if they want to join the study.

Seeking More People in the UK for Research

Earlier tests focused only on people with paralysis. But Elon Musk has said the chip could eventually help many others by letting them communicate with computers in new ways. He even talks about sending information directly into the brain.

Who can take part in the UK research? Neuralink wants people with paralysis caused by diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or injuries to the spinal cord.

They say the implant goes into the part of the brain that controls movement. The chip reads brain signals and lets the user control a computer or smartphone. No wires or physical movement are needed.

To join the study, a person must be at least 22 years old. They should have tetraplegia caused by a spinal injury or ALS and be at least one year past the injury. They also need to have reliable care all the time.

This research could bring new hope for many people who cannot move or speak.

Neuralink’s work shows how science and technology may change lives in ways we only dreamed of before.
