Ford is preparing a $30,000 electric pickup truck for 2027 that’s compact in size but big on features.

A Compact Electric Pickup in the Works

Ford’s new EV pickup will be built at the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky and is set to launch in 2027. It will be similar in size to the Maverick but powered entirely by electricity.

Not a Slate Rival on Price

The truck will start at around $30,000—at least $5,000 more than Slate’s entry-level model. Ford says it won’t be a bare-bones vehicle, offering more standard features from the start.

Better Equipped From Base Model

Even the most affordable version will include advanced features like BlueCruise, Ford’s hands-free driver-assistance system—something that only recently became available on the larger Ranger.

New Manufacturing for Lower Costs

Ford’s fresh production process will be 40% faster and use fewer components, which the company says should improve efficiency and reliability while reducing costs.

A Smaller Battery Than Expected

The compact truck’s battery is estimated at about 51.0 kWh—smaller than Slate’s 52.7 kWh base pack and well below many other EVs in its class.

Range Still a Mystery

Ford hasn’t confirmed range, but to compete it will need to offer at least 150 miles in base form, matching Slate, with higher-capacity options for longer distances.

Sticking With 400-Volt Architecture

While some rivals move to 800-volt systems, Ford will use a 400-volt setup with cobalt- and nickel-free LFP batteries to save weight, space, and cost.

Extra Functionality Built In

The pickup will feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) capabilities, allowing owners to power tools or even a home directly from the truck.

Potential for Strong Sales

With Ford’s dealership network, brand recognition, and success with the Maverick, the company is well-positioned to move its compact EV pickup quickly once it hits the market.
