Gary Wright dies at 80.
Gary Wright, the iconic singer known for hits like “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive,” has passed away at the age of 80.
His son Dorian confirmed the news, while his other son Justin revealed that Wright had been battling Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
The singer’s condition had deteriorated over the past year, making it difficult for him to speak or move.
Wright had a multifaceted career, not just as a singer but also as a composer and producer. He frequently collaborated with George Harrison of the Beatles. Born in New Jersey in 1943,
Wright initially pursued a career in medicine but eventually chose music, becoming a joint lead vocalist for the British blues rock band Spooky Tooth in 1967. He later embarked on a successful solo career.
Wright’s influence remained significant over the years, with artists like Jay-Z, Tone-Loc, and Eminem sampling his music. He is survived by his second wife Rose, his first wife Tina, and their sons.
