The suspected shooter in the Charlie Kirk assassination Wednesday has allegedly been taken into custody.

US President Donald Trump told reporters the news, and sources familiar with the matter confirms to CNN that a person is in custody and being questioned..

Report: Confessed to father

Sources tell CNN, that the person in custody confessed to his father, that he was the shooter.

Allegedly, the father then contacted authorities and secured the son until authorities arrived to formally detain the suspected shooter.

In an appearance on Fox News, Trump was the one to break the news of the suspected shooter being taken into custody.

“I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” the President said,

Hoping for the death penalty

Utah have the death penalty, and Trump said on Fox & Friends that he hopes the shooter will be executed.

“Well, I hope — he’s going to be found guilty, I would imagine — and I hope he gets the death penalty,” he said.

Not the first in custody

Shortly after the shooting Wednesday, a person was reportedly taken into custody by law enforcement.

Trump: Left-wing radicals “are the problem”

Political violence has exploded in the US, and during his appearance on Fox & Friends, Donald Trump blamed left-wing radicals.

“They’re vicious and they’re horrible, and they’re politically savvy,” the President argued.

He also said that right-wing radicals are not the problem, stating that “the radicals on the right oftentimes are radical because they don’t want to see crime”.

Both Democrats and Republicans targeted

Earlier this year, two Democratic state legislators where shot in their homes in Minnesota with one of them dying from her injuries.
