Three demands Jimmy Kimmel must meet to return to air after suspension over Charlie Kirk comments.

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show has been yanked off the air following backlash over his comments on Charlie Kirk’s murder.

Here’s what Sinclair Broadcast Group is demanding before letting him return.

The Suspension

Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been pulled indefinitely from Sinclair-owned ABC affiliates following a wave of backlash over comments the host made regarding the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The suspension was announced on September 17, following pressure from certain political groups and public outrage over the show’s tone after the high-profile killing.

Charlie Kirk

Kirk, podcaster, pro-gun activist, and a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, was shot dead on September 10 during a public event at Utah Valley University.

The suspected gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested two days later and charged with aggravated murder.

Kimmel’s Monologue

Instead of offering condolences during his September 15 broadcast, Kimmel criticized Trump’s awkward response to a reporter’s question about Kirk’s death.

Trump had veered off into discussing White House ballroom renovations, prompting Kimmel to say:

“He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, okay?”

Politicizing the Shooting

Kimmel doubled down, suggesting Trump was emotionally detached and accused the “MAGA gang” of trying to politicize the shooting while failing to acknowledge the killer’s possible connections.

“Inappropriate and Insensitive”

Sinclair Broadcast Group — the largest ABC affiliate group in the U.S. — responded swiftly.

Calling Kimmel’s remarks “inappropriate and deeply insensitive,” Sinclair Vice Chairman Jason Smith issued a public statement on X:

“We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities.”

While some media watchdogs criticized the move as censorship, Sinclair made it clear that suspension alone is not enough.

Trump Applauds Cancellation

Unsurprisingly, President Donald Trump celebrated the decision.

“Great news for America: The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump posted on Truth Social, calling Kimmel a “total loser” and pressuring NBC to axe other hosts too.

Kimmel, a frequent Trump critic, has not responded publicly.

Three Conditions for Return

According to Newsner, Sinclair outlined three specific conditions Kimmel must meet before his show can be reinstated on their affiliate stations:

1. Formal Network Discussions

ABC must engage in direct talks with Sinclair about “professionalism” and ensure such incidents won’t happen again.

2. Direct Apology to the Kirk Family

A personal and public apology from Kimmel is non-negotiable.

3. Donation to the Family and Turning Point USA

Kimmel must make a “meaningful personal donation” to both the Kirk family and the conservative organization he co-founded.

These demands indicate Sinclair’s intent mend relations with the conservative community.

    Tensions Behind the Scenes

According to sources cited by the Daily Mail, Kimmel is “absolutely f–king livid” about the suspension.

A producer close to the host said the comedian is furious over what he sees as an overreaction, especially given the political context of his comments.

Still, ABC has not issued a formal response, and Kimmel has stayed silent since the show’s removal from the lineup.
