A Ukrainian drone strike reportedly hit the Orsk Oil Refinery in Russia’s Orenburg region on November 11, according to multiple local and Telegram-based sources.

The refinery, known officially as Orsknefteorgsintez, is one of Russia’s largest and is located more than 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

Footage posted by eyewitnesses and shared by the Telegram channel Exilenova+ showed heavy black smoke and flames rising from the industrial site.

The explosions were first reported shortly after noon, and the images have since been verified by several independent outlets.

Orsknefteorgsintez is owned by JSC ForteInvest, part of the Safmar industrial group. It processes 6.6 million tons of crude oil per year and produces a wide variety of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, lubricants, bitumen, and fuel oil.

The site includes several key pieces of infrastructure, including multiple primary distillation and reforming units, as well as hydrotreating installations.

Key component likely targeted

Initial reports suggest the strike may have hit the AVT unit—used in the primary distillation of crude oil into its base components. Damage to this system could halt or severely disrupt the refinery’s output, although the full extent of the destruction is still unknown.

The attack is one of several that occurred across Russian territory on the same day.

According to Ukraine’s General Staff, other targets included a military warehouse in Donetsk, troop positions near Ocheretyne, the Morskoy Oil Terminal in occupied Feodosia, and the Saratov Oil Refinery.
