Poland’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that seven-year-old Amelka, a Polish national, died alongside her mother in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian city Ternopil, Kyiv Independent reports.
Days later, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote in a post on X: “Amelka was seven years old. Seven. A Polish child… This cruel war must end, and Russia cannot win it.”
Ukrainian emergency crews ended their four-day search on Nov. 22, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
By Nov. 23, regional governor Taras Pastukh reported a death toll of 34, while six people — including a child — remained missing.
High-stakes diplomacy
Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky wrote on X on Sunday, that Russia has attacked Ukraine with 1050 drones, neawrly 1000 glide bombs and more than 60 missiles – just in the previous week.

The President is currently engaged in a diplomatic marathon, after the U.S. presented a draft plan for peace in Ukraine late last week.
The plan, however, was allegedly drawn up in cooperation with Russian representatives, and several of the 28 points of the plan has received stark criticism.
Mourning and war-crime investigation
Following the strike on Ternopil, local authorities declared three days of mourning and warned residents to stay indoors as air toxicity rose sixfold
Public broadcaster Suspilne Ternopil said people gathered on Nov. 20 for a minute of silence, holding signs reading “Remember” and “11/19.”
The Security Service of Ukraine classified the strike as a war crime, and investigators opened a case under Article 438 of Ukraine’s criminal code.

Another barrage, 4 dead
On the evening of Nov. 23, another Russia drone barrage, this time targeting the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, killed at leaste four people and injured at least 17, according to regional officials.
The regional Governor, Oleh Syniehubov, wrote on Telegram, that three residential buildings and an infrastructure facility was on fire, and that children aged 11 and 12 were among the injured civilians.
