In 1981, the Wedding of the Century took place, as then-Prince Charles and Lady Diana said yes to each other in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

But unlike most of the weddings I’ve ever been to, there was actually alcohol to spare when the guests went home — and now, one of the very special bottles could become yours.

Danish auctioneer Bruun Rasmussen is putting a magnum bottle of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1961 under the hammer. It was a special wedding gift for the couple.

“The 1961 vintage is considered one of Dom Pérignon’s most sought-after years. This special edition was produced in a very limited quantity and created exclusively for the official celebrations and selected guests at the royal wedding,” says Thomas Rosendahl, head of the wine department at Bruun Rasmussen, in a statement.

According to the auctioneer, the bottle is valued between $77,000 and $93,000 (£58,000 and £70,000).

The bottle will be up for auction on Dec. 11, and you can find it here (opens in new tab, Danish).

Facts about the royal wedding

The wedding in 1981 was indeed a historical event, but here are some facts about the wedding so you can impress your colleagues and friends:

  • It was the first royal wedding to be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral since 1501.
  • 750 million people from 74 different countries are believed to have tuned in to follow the event.
  • The cost of the wedding is estimated at $135 million when adjusting for inflation.
  • There were 27 wedding cakes.
  • The dress designer hid an 18-karat gold horseshoe in the gown’s label — for good luck.
