A Thai army spokesperson said hostilities intensified before dawn, resulting in the death of one Thai soldier and injuries to eight more.
According to Reuters, air units were deployed after Thai forces assessed that Cambodian troops had repositioned artillery and support elements in a way they interpreted as a possible escalation.
Thailand’s Air Force said such movements signalled preparations that could widen the fighting. Cambodia’s defence ministry, however, accused Thailand of initiating “dawn attacks” at two border points following days of what it described as provocation.
Phnom Penh maintains that its own soldiers withheld fire throughout the incident. Three Cambodian civilians have been seriously hurt, according to local officials.
