A rare social media error from Buckingham Palace has caught the attention of royal watchers, after a message from King Charles appeared to be shared incorrectly.

The mistake stood out precisely because such slip-ups are uncommon across the Royal Family’s official channels.

Unusual error

On January 16, a post published on King Charles’ official X account appeared to be uploaded in the wrong order.

The Royal Family’s account shared a statement from the King marking the first anniversary of the 100-Year Partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine. The message was split across two slides, but readers quickly noticed that the second half of the statement had been posted first.

The reversed order caused confusion among online users, with many struggling to make sense of the message as it initially appeared, reports The Express.

Message in full

When read in the intended order, the King’s statement began by reflecting on the milestone in UK-Ukraine relations.

“As we celebrate the first anniversary of the 100-Year Partnership between the United Kingdom and Ukraine, I do pray that the flourishing bonds between our two countries may bring some hope and moral support at this most difficult time,” the message said.

It went on to praise the resilience of the Ukrainian people. “Ukraine’s most valiant strength in the face of such appalling hardship and pain is an extraordinary example to the world, and I am constantly impressed by the sheer bravery, courage and resilience shown by the Ukrainian people.”

Ongoing support

The King also referenced the approaching anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.

“As we also look ahead to the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion of your beloved country – a time of great anguish, I know, for many families across Ukraine and the world – my wife and I continue to keep you all in our heartfelt thoughts and prayers,” he said.

He concluded by expressing hope for peace. “I wish, above all, to convey my profound hope that Ukraine can achieve a just and lasting peace that safeguards its security, sovereignty and prosperity, in a way that Ukrainians deserve. We stand with you.”

Not the first time

While rare, the incident is not the first recent social media mishap involving the Palace. Last November, Buckingham Palace corrected a post that mistakenly referred to the timing of the Duchess of Edinburgh’s visit to Peru.

The original upload described the trip as taking place “this week,” when it had actually occurred the week before. The wording was quickly amended after the error was spotted.

King Charles has met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy three times in 2025, most recently hosting him at Windsor Castle in October.
