Greenland protest hats aimed at Trump find biggest audience in the US

A tongue-in-cheek political slogan from Greenland has unexpectedly struck a chord far beyond the Arctic. What began as a local protest has turned into an international curiosity, with Americans emerging as the most enthusiastic buyers.
A familiar look
What originated in a clothing shop in Copenhagen has taken the online sales world by storm.
Online sellers have begun offering red baseball caps that closely resemble the famous MAGA hats, but with one key difference. Instead of praising America, the caps carry the message “Make America Go Away” in bold white lettering.
The hats are a direct response to renewed comments by US President Donald Trump about Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory. Trump has recently escalated rhetoric about taking control of the island, prompting anger and mockery in parts of Europe.
A political parody
One of the groups behind the caps is Greenland Support, founded by Victor Schøtt. He told Business Insider the design is not anti-American in general, but aimed squarely at Trump’s approach to foreign policy.

“The Donald Trump America needs to stay away — the part that’s trying to take over Greenland,” Schøtt said.
The hats parody the style of the original “Make America Great Again” merchandise, turning it into a statement of resistance rather than support.
Americans lead sales
Despite the message, Schøtt said US customers account for the largest share of purchases. In recent days, orders from the United States have outpaced those from Denmark and other European countries.
“The United States is first with around 50 orders the last couple of days, then we have Denmark with 45, and then we have Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Sweden at around 20 each,” he said.
Sales have reportedly reached several hundred hats per week.

From Nuuk to Copenhagen
The site also sells another design reading “Nu det NUUK,” a play on words referencing Greenland’s capital that roughly translates as “That’s enough.” Both slogans were spotted at recent demonstrations in Nuuk and Copenhagen, according to reporting cited by Business Insider.
All proceeds from the hat sales are donated to a children’s charity in Greenland, Schøtt said.
A wider trend
The hats are part of a growing wave of merchandise riffing on the MAGA slogan during Trump’s second term. Variations such as “Make America Gay Again,” “Make NATO Great Again,” and “Make America Normal Again” have also appeared online.
While the designs differ in message, they share a common aim: using humour and parody to push back against the political influence of the original slogan.
