A late-night email from Donald Trump has drawn widespread ridicule online, with critics calling it unsettling.
The fundraising email was sent on January 13 and later circulated widely after being archived by the Archive of Political Emails.
Its subject line read: “I’m alone and in the dark.”
“Some people are saying: This is sad,” the email stated. “I’m sitting here. Alone. In the war room. Fighting for you. The rest of the staff went home hours ago. It’s just me, one dying laptop and the 72-hour countdown clock to my first mid-month deadline of the year just RANG.”
Trump furthermore warns supporters that failure to meet fundraising targets would have dire political consequences.
“I need a small sacrifice”
In the email, Trump claimed that missing the goal would allow the “radical Left” to take control of Congress in 2026.
He said this would result in “open borders forever,” children being “brainwashed,” firearms being confiscated, and “another FAKE impeachment.”
“They’re already spending BILLIONS (Dirty Money, I bet) to bury US and bury YOU!” Trump wrote. “I need a small sacrifice from every red-blooded American who wants to save the country!”
He added that he was “dead serious,” warning that the “MAGA Movement crumbles” if supporters failed to act.
Fundraising pitch
Trump urged supporters to donate $47 within “the next 30 minutes,” promising a limited-edition 2025 Trump calendar in return.
“But that’s nothing compared to losing the country,” the email concluded. “We have been fighting for years.. And I fear the end is near. The woke mind virus is infiltrating more and more Americans every day. This could be our last chance! Do it for America, show them MAGA is strong!”
It is unclear how much money the email generated.
Online backlash
The message was swiftly mocked online.
Democratic commentator Harry Sisson wrote: “Trump sent this creepy email to his supporters last night saying he’s ‘alone and in the dark’ and he’s writing the message from a ‘dying laptop.’ The only way to help him is to donate your money to him. Disgusting grift. Very weird!”
Others piled on. “I’m curious ….which intern wrote this !!??” one user commented.
Another joked: “What, did he not pay the power bill?”
