Audi's manufacturing facility in Györ, Hungary, officially commenced production of the Cupra Terramar on Friday.

One-Third Output Will be Cupra

This new model, recently unveiled in Barcelona, is expected to play a crucial role in the brand's lineup, with projections estimating an annual production of approximately 55,000 units once initial demand stabilizes, according to El Economista.

László Juhász, the plant manager, shared insights on the production allocation, indicating that the facility will dedicate two-thirds of its output to the Audi Q3, the only model previously manufactured there, and one-third to Cupra.

The plant has an impressive annual capacity of 170,000 vehicles, allowing flexibility to adjust production based on market demand.

Three Types of Engines

Starting with a daily output of 100 cars, the plant plans to gradually increase production to 115 units per day in the coming week, utilizing three shifts. The Cupra Terramar is viewed as a pivotal model for increasing profitability and sales volume, with the goal of reaching 500,000 units sold annually. The brand aims to attract new consumers, particularly those seeking larger vehicles.

Wayne Griffiths, President of Cupra, emphasized the model's significance during its world premiere, highlighting that while it may not achieve the sales levels of the Cupra Formentor, it remains crucial for the brand's growth.

The Cupra Terramar will feature three types of engines, including a pure gasoline option and two hybrid variants. Gasoline engines will deliver 204 and 265 horsepower, while mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid options will offer 150, 204, and 272 horsepower, with the latter providing an electric range of up to 100 kilometers.

With this launch, Cupra's model introductions for 2024 are complete, paving the way for the debut of the Cupra Raval in 2025, backed by a substantial investment of €10 billion ($10.6 billion).
