The prestigious Venice International Film Festival has become the latest high-profile target of a cyberattack.

Just weeks before its 82nd edition kicks off, organizers confirmed that personal information of accredited participants was stolen from the festival’s servers.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, cited by news.ro, the breach occurred on July 7, when unknown individuals accessed and copied documents containing sensitive personal data.

What Was Stolen?

The stolen data includes:

  • Names
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Tax codes
  • Postal addresses

All of this belonged to individuals accredited for the 2025 edition, which runs from August 27 to September 9.

In a notification sent to those affected, Mostra organizers said their IT team acted quickly to contain the breach. The team isolated and secured the affected systems to prevent further data leaks.

“The relevant authorities were immediately informed and restoration operations were launched,” organizers noted in the message.

This isn’t the first time a major European film event has been disrupted by cybercrime. Back in 2022, the Cannes Film Festival reported that its online ticketing system was overwhelmed by bots, in what organizers described as a coordinated cyberattack.
