U.S. authorities are recalling a wide range of products sold by major retailers over fears of salmonella contamination.
After suspected salmonella contamination in milk powder used in several products, U.S. food authorities are recalling a wide range of food items, Express reports.
The recall includes products sold in numerous stores, including Walmart, Aldi, Target, QVC, and Williams Sonoma.
The affected products range from frozen pizzas to spices, snack items, and powdered mixes. Several products are currently under investigation by the FDA.
Several chains affected
The reason behind the recall is concern over milk powder from California Dairies, which may potentially have been contaminated with salmonella.
The recalls began back in April, but additional products have since been added. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has also issued its own health alert.
The challenge is that many of the products have expiration dates extending well into 2027. This means many consumers may still have them stored at home, Express reports.
Consumers warned
Authorities are therefore urging all customers to check lot numbers and expiration dates on the affected products, Express reports.
The products should not be consumed if they match the public recall notices, as salmonella can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever.
Young children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are considered to be at the highest risk of severe illness.
The recalled products can be found on the websites of the various grocery chains.
