A Serious Health Threat
As of June 17, 17 listeriosis cases have been linked to these products, including three confirmed deaths and one fetal loss.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has classified this outbreak as a public health emergency, given the severe consequences for vulnerable populations.
Listeriosis, caused by the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, is especially dangerous for pregnant individuals, seniors aged 65 and over, immunocompromised people, and young children.
Early symptoms include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress. More severe cases can result in meningitis, seizures, or fetal complications.
What to Do
If you’ve purchased any of the listed products, the FSIS urges you to dispose of them immediately or return them to the store for a refund.
Those experiencing symptoms consistent with listeriosis should seek medical care without delay.
