France’s biggest film star, Gerard Depardieu, has been found guilty of sexual assault aimed at an assistant director and a set dresser during a film shoot in Paris in 2021, The Guardian reports.
Not in court

Depardieu, 76, was not present in court for the verdict, ending with the French film legend recieving an 18-month suspended prison sentence.
“Come and touch my big parasol”

Depardieu targeted set decorator, Amélie, on multiple occations, including when she was making a phone call trying to track down parasols for the movie (Les Voles Verts/The Green Shutters). During her phone call, Depardieu allegedly said: “Come and touch my big parasol. I’ll stick it in your p****”.

The assistant director, who has not been named in the media, allegedly was assaulted by Depardieu on three different occations during the making of the film. The assault involved touching her breasts and buttocks.

Born French, Depardieu has been a Belgian resident since 2012. In 2012, he handed back his French passport. In 2013, Vladimir Putin signed an Executive order granting Depardieu Russian citizenship. In 2022, Depardieu revealed that he had become a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, not specifying when it had actually happened.
