An overturned food aid truck has left 20 people dead in Nuseirat, located in the central Gaza Strip, according to a statement from the Civil Defense.
“The vehicle flipped while hundreds of civilians were gathered, waiting for food assistance in Nuseirat,” a Civil Defense spokesperson told AFP, as cited by news.ro.
The spokesperson added that “the Israeli army forced the truck to travel on damaged and unsafe roads that had been previously bombed,” making the route hazardous.
In an official statement on Wednesday, the Hamas-run government in Gaza accused Israel of deliberately obstructing the safe delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid.
“Although a few aid trucks have recently been permitted to enter, Israel continues to deny safe passage, forcing drivers onto routes crowded with starving civilians who have waited for weeks for essential supplies,” the statement said.

The government further alleged that this “intentional and criminal approach often provokes desperate crowds to storm aid trucks and seize their contents by force.”
Authorities in Gaza confirmed that all of the 20 fatalities were civilians, with dozens more injured.
When contacted by AFP, the Israeli military said it was in the process of “verifying” the reported incident.
