What is happening?
Sunday, a Ukrainian special operation carried out deep in Russian territory alegedly managed to damage at least 40 Russian bombers.
What was used in the attack?
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the attack was carried out by smuggling drones deep into Russia and then launching them in a coordinated attack.
Hidden in wooden cabins
Details are still emerging regarding the operation, but alegedly, 117 drones were used with a corresponding number of drone operators.
According to the SBU, the drones were hidden in wooden cabins. The cabins were then opened remotely, and the drones flew to hit their targets.
Bridges collapsed
In addition to the military sites being hit by drones, two Russian bridges collapsed as well.
It is not clear whether the attack on the bridges were part of the drone-operation named “Operation Spider Web”.
1½ year in the making
Alegedly, the attack, that hit four Russiand airfirleds across the country, has taken more than 1½ year of planning.
Over $7 billion in damages
Ukrainian President, Volodomyr Zelenskyy, wrote on X that the attack had taken out 34 % of Russia strategic cruise missile carriers, causing more than $7 billion of damage.
What will Putin do?
The attack is a huge hit to Russia, as it shows that the Russian defence is clearly not as effective as Putin would like it to appear.
Experts fear that Russia will retaliate, but no statement has been made from the Kremlin just yet.
