Another top official exits as Trump team faces growing turnover

Another senior figure has exited the Trump administration, adding to a string of recent high-level departures.

The move comes amid reports of internal pressure and ongoing scrutiny within key government departments, reports TV 2 News.

Sudden departure

US Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned from her role, according to an announcement from the White House.

According to TV 2 News, communications director Steven Cheung said she is leaving to take up a position in the private sector.

“She has done an outstanding job in her role by protecting American workers, establishing fair working conditions, and helping Americans acquire new skills that can improve their lives,” Cheung wrote.

Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling will take over as acting head of the department.

Pattern of exits

The departure marks the third cabinet-level change in less than two months.

According to TV 2 News, earlier changes included the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in March.

More recently, Attorney General Pam Bondi also left her position.

The series of exits has raised questions about stability within the administration.

Reports of pressure

Speculation about further changes has been circulating in US media.

According to TV 2 News, The Atlantic reported that several senior officials could be at risk of losing their positions.

Chavez-DeRemer had been among those reportedly under consideration for removal.

Other figures, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, were also mentioned in reports.

Background and scrutiny

Chavez-DeRemer, 58, took office as Labor Secretary in March 2025 after previously serving in Congress.

According to TV 2 News, several members of her team, including senior aides, had already stepped down in recent months.

Reuters, cited by TV 2 News, reported that these departures occurred during an investigation into alleged misconduct within the department.

The White House has not provided further details on the inquiry.
