According to White House insiders, it is none of the above. Instead, the president is apparently more concerned about what is going on outside the White House in his garden.

President Donald Trump has increasingly turned his attention away from pressing voter concerns like rising inflation, the midterms, and important geopolitical conflicts. Instead, aides say the 80-year-old president is consumed by his place in history.
This has reportedly left many aides frustrated as crucial midterm elections approach. A senior administration official told The Wall Street Journal that Trump has entered “legacy mode” and is “fixated on how he will be remembered by future generations.”
Advisers reveal that Trump harbors a specific dread about how Americans will remember him. Aides say Trump fears his presidency will be remembered similarly to “past occupants of the White House he views as weak, such as Jimmy Carter.”
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a close ally, confirmed this mindset. He told the WSJ that Trump is “one of the handful of presidents who thinks on an entirely historic scale.”
Everlasting legacy
Gingrich explained that the president feels a deep desire to leave a lasting mark. “He wants to be consequential. He wants this to matter,” he said.
He added, “He wants to be the kind of president who people say, you know, it mattered that he was president.”
However, this focus on personal image is creating friction within the Republican Party. Many in the GOP want the president to use his political strength, including a $400 million campaign fund, to help defend the fragile majorities in Congress.
Midterm election anxiety grows
Instead, Trump plans to run ad campaigns highlighting his own personal achievements. This decision comes even though his approval ratings are abysmal across the board.
Some proposals have raised eyebrows among lawmakers. For instance, Trump just signed an executive order to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” Allies worry it will serve as a distraction that will alienate voters who are struggling with the affordability crisis in America.
With inflation continuing to weigh heavily on consumers, Republicans worry they could lose control of both the House and Senate after the election in November.
