Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) has released a disturbing audio recording that exposes cannibalism among Russian forces near Kupiansk.
The intercepted call, made public on June 20, captures Russian soldiers speaking about a comrade who was not missing, as previously thought, but was allegedly killed and eaten by a fellow soldier.
The call involves members of the 52nd Separate Reconnaissance Battalion under the 68th Motorized Rifle Division, currently stationed near the villages of Zapadne and Lyman Pershyi on the eastern Ukrainian front.
Grim Details from the Front
“Nobody f***ing disappeared,” one officer says on the tape. “‘Brelok’ shot him, and then ate him for two weeks.”
The victim, referred to as “Foma,” had initially been listed as missing.
The cannibalistic soldier, “Brelok,” was later found dead as well—killed in action, according to the conversation.
“They say it was just a KIA, but he ate his comrade. Something to think about,” another Russian officer adds in the audio.
Ukraine’s intelligence service issued a stark assessment alongside the release: “Cannibalism is yet another grotesque sign of the deep moral and psychological collapse within the Russian army—a force that has lost all basic respect for human life, including their own.”
Pattern of Collapse
This is not the first time such reports have emerged from Russian ranks.
Previous accounts detailed how Russian soldiers trapped at the Vovchansk Aggregate Plant resorted to eating stray dogs—and, reportedly, parts of deceased fellow soldiers.
