Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says EU countries should give more financial support to Ukraine’s defense industry to help it produce more weapons and ammunition.

She spoke on July 3 in Copenhagen during the launch of Denmark’s presidency of the EU Council.

“If there are any gaps in weapons supplies, I believe we must fill them,” Frederiksen said, according to European Pravda.

She pointed out that Ukraine is already producing weapons quickly and cheaply — and that it can produce even more if it gets extra funding.

More Support Needed

Frederiksen said that over a year ago, a system was created to support Ukraine’s weapons production inside the country, and that it has worked well.

She believes more money is needed so Ukraine can increase its production.

At the same time, Denmark is also looking at the option of moving part of Ukraine’s weapons production to other countries in Europe.

“We are looking into ways to support Ukrainian manufacturing beyond its borders — including right here in Denmark,” she said.

As Denmark takes over the rotating presidency of the EU Council, Frederiksen has also said that her country will push Hungary to stop blocking talks about Ukraine joining the EU.
