Erika Kirk has delivered a message to people mocking or excusing the killing of her husband, far-right activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead during a campus event in Utah on 10 September 2025.

Kirk, known for his hardline positions on civil rights, immigration, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ issues and gun laws, was speaking at Utah Valley University when he was fatally shot by a single bullet while taking a question on gun crime.

Emotional response

In an interview with CBS News, Erika condemned those who joked about or celebrated the killing.

“You’re SICK. He’s a human being. You think he deserved that? Tell that to my 3-year-old daughter… excuse me,” she said through tears.

She continued, “You wanna watch the high-res video of my husband being murdered? And laugh? And say he deserves it? There’s something very sick in your soul and I pray that God saves you.”

Erika said the reaction shows how online culture has “dehumanized” people, making violence appear detached from real families and consequences.

Taking on his role

Since her husband’s death, Erika has stepped in as CEO of Turning Point USA, the organization he co-founded.

She has pledged to “complete his vision,” with the group writing on X: “We will not surrender or kneel before evil. We will carry on.”

Turning Point USA said efforts to dismantle Kirk’s work would instead “make it more powerful and enduring than ever before.”

Charges in the shooting

Two days after the killing, police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

He now faces seven charges, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and felony firearm offences.

One charge concerns committing a violent act in the presence of a child.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray has said prosecutors will seek the death penalty, adding, “I do not take this decision lightly.”

Robinson remains in custody without bail.
